kitbashing question

hey all i've got a couple of quick questions for you all. first of all, has anybody tried to put the revell good guys rod and custom 48 ford convertible body to the revell special edition 49 merc chassis? i came up the idea because i'd swiped some parts out of the merc kit and then screwed up the 48 ford chassis past the point of no repair. so i though put the body and interior onto the chassis and running gear of the merc.

second question is more to get a fresh perspective from other people because i'm stumped kinda. i've been working on mating the body to the chassis. the problem i'm having is the body and chassis line up perfectly except for one place. about a quarter to a half an inch from the front of the rear wheel opening forward on the rocker panel. i've sanded and filed everything that was hitting and interfereing with fitment. and it's still not sitting flush like the rest of it.

i was just wondering if anybody might have some ideas on why this might be and/or any possible solutions to this little problem without screwing up the beautiful lines of the 48 ford. to be honest i'm stumped and really could use the help. i think it'll be a really nice looking model when it's done if i can get this little problem squared away.

thx in advance all.
